Add a pinch of procedural with a library of real-time post effects and shaders. Keep organized with layers, masks and groups. Assemble your canvas out of existing images and animations. Hexels is a versatile tool for the graphic artist working with multiple applications, at a print-ready resolution. Whether you are creating textiles or laying out an elaborate mosaic, Hexels can help. Draft your own grids with a powerful custom grid designer. Explore advanced grid types like Voronoi. Paint tessellating patterns on an endless canvas. Hexels is the perfect tool for exploring tiling designs and geometries. Or tell a hand-drawn tale with a simple flipbook animation. Send shapes and colors twirling with layer transforms. Breathe subtle motion into a still image with post effects and motion curves. Animateīuild a world and bring it to life with the Hexels animation timeline. And because Hexels renders everything on the GPU, you'll see a pixel-perfect preview on the canvas as you paint. Advanced rasterization tools provide vector alignment, pixel-perfect isometric art, pixel scaling, and antialiasing at any export resolution.

Hexels gives you full control over the vector-to-pixel rendering process.

Block out whole cities in vector form, then dive in for the details. Carve pixel-perfect trim into isometric art.

Complement angular Hexel art with soft, sweeping brushwork. Pixels and Trixels living in harmony! Hexels lets you combine layers of vector and pixel art on the same canvas. Raise walls, carve mountains, bend perspective to your will and build impossible wonders. Constructįor the craftsman looking to build worlds, Hexels provides a set of grids and guides for drafting all forms of isometric art. Export a sprite sheet for every princess in every castle. Set your canvas in motion with the animation timeline. Keep track of colors and gradients with the palette. Make full use of the same great drawing tools. The grid-based canvas in Hexels is a natural fit for the forward-thinking pixel artist. It is a new kind of workflow that's intuitive and easy to pick up by a beginner, and a versatile tool in the hands of a pro. The Hexels grid allows artists to create complex vector designs with the stroke of a brush. HexelateĪt the heart of Hexels lies a paintable grid of geometric shapes: a tessellating canvas built of hexagons, triangles, squares, and custom polygons. I usually do some texturing and color tweaking in Photoshop (as described in this post) after all of the Hexels work is done.Marmoset Hexels™ is a unique, grid-based painting tool for vector art, pixel art, design, and animation. The sky is on yet another layer below them. Then I arranged them in Photoshop! They are on a layer behind the rocks and grass. In the document tab I set canvas color to transparent and then doodled some clouds with the brush set to low opacity. …But that blue sky needs some puffy clouds. When I need to add extra elements to a Hexels picture I just draw them off to the side and then combine them with Photoshop. I also put in some blue sky and randomized the checkerboard a bit. Usually I fix this my making one side lighter and the other darker, like in the top left corner of this image. The area circled in red is a bit of a problem because the two grassy areas shouldn’t actually be connected in 3D space. I added a checkerboard pattern to the grass and put some highlights on the water with the edge tool. The blended/transparent water is made by tweaking the bush opacity settings. I started by doodling out this structure: Here are some process screenshots of a isometric trixel landscape. Everything is just an extension of this basic shape: On the left is a monocolor example, on the right is the sort of coloration that you’d use for a minecrafty rock with grass on top. This will allow you to construct tricolor hexagons like these:

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for a tutorial, so here’s a post about how to make isometric floating islands and stuff in Hexels Pro.įirst, in Hexels you’ll want to set the grid to trixel mode and tick the “Rotate 90°” box:
